Recreation and Parks

The Department of Recreation and Parks plans and administers the municipal recreation and parks program, coordinating that program with several organizations such as the YWCA, the Arts Council, and the Girls' and Boys' Clubs. The department also maintains 32 city-owned properties: a marina, 11 flower gardens, 18 fields for baseball and soccer, and 9 parks and playgrounds. It also manages several beautification programs.

The department operates the Civic Center Recreation Building, the Community Center in Scarboro, and the Senior Center on Robertsville Road. With a 25-meter indoor pool and an outdoor pool that is one of the largest facilities in the United States, the City of Oak Ridge offers a comprehensive swimming program for citizens of all ages.

In addition to the 9 parks and playgrounds, the city maintains 4 boat launches, a fitness trail, 4 hiking trails, 3 running tracks, and 36 lighted tennis courts.
