CITY GOVERNMENT

The city operates under a modified city manager-council form of government. Seven council members are elected at-large in a city-wide election. All corporate and legislative powers of the city are vested in the city council. The mayor is elected from the membership of the council every 2 years.

The city manager, the chief administrative officer of the city, is appointed by the city council. The manager supervises the administrative affairs of the city and is charged with the preservation of the public peace and health, the safety of persons and properties, the enforcement of the laws, and the development and utilization of the city's resources. The City of Oak Ridge has received several awards for superior management practices.
