Strengthen the world-class environmental activities occurring in East Tennessee as a national model for private sector solutions to environmental issues.

OBJECTIVES

Commit to changing DOE regulations so that environmental clean-up can be done more cost-effectively.

Commit to changing DOE rules to allow environmental companies to demonstrate their technologies on the DOE reservation, including the re-use and privatization of buildings.

Commit to transferring DOE land for use by private enterprises.

Develop training and business development linkages between Oak Ridge and Chattanooga.

Promote the creative use of "Brownfield Development" sites in Knoxville and Chattanooga for economic development.

Maintain present level of clean-up activities.

EXTERNAL MESSAGES

Answers to environmental problems through private sector solutions make East Tennessee a global focus for environmental activities.

America must be responsive to our environmental issues while maintaining an appropriate balance of rules and regulations.

The needs of small and medium sized businesses are especially vulnerable to overly burdensome regulations and removing these burdens will promote environmental progress in East Tennessee and throughout the U.S.
