The Oak Ridge Centers for Manufacturing Technology (ORCMT) are participating in the Advanced Manufacturing National Information Infrastructure (AM-NII) program which is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Defense Programs Technology Transfer Initiative. Other DOE facilities involved in the program include the Allied Signal Kansas City Plant, and Los Alamos, Livermore and Sandia National Laboratories. The goal of the Advanced Manufacturing National Information Infrastructure Program is to partner with the manufacturing sector, leveraging Department of Energy capabilities to develop, demonstrate, and pilot industrial information infrastructure and applications, to enhance national competitiveness and security. AM-NII is a joint DOE/industry partnership program which is organized with five technology focus areas reflecting the interests of industry and the DOE. AM-NII will focus on dual-use infrastructure needs applicable to the defense and U.S. manufacturing industry. The intent of AM-NII is to fill some of the technology gaps not addressed in other national information infrastructure programs. AMNII projects will address 5 focus areas including: Electronic Commerce, Technical Data Exchange,, Distributed Simulation, Security and Intelligent Agent Technology, and Business Enterprise Modeling.
